South-East coast area : Djerba, Gabès, Médenine

Main tourism destination of Tunisia for its superb white sand beaches, the Island of Jerba remains nice to know out of season, and one can find there delightful " Arab- Andalusian " houses scattered inside lands, among palm trees and " menzel ", those so typical ancient wells moved by donkeys. Jerba and its comfortable hotels can also be used as a start point for desert moutain and (flat or steep) rocky desert locations.

Then, in Médenine and Matmata areas, you will find Berberian villages, partly abandoned, and their cave-dwelling houses. You must also see some of the " Ksour " around Chenini and Tataouine, these ancient lofts of the nomads, all in brown and white soft curves (don't you remember the Tatooine planet in "Star Wars" ?).
